Dont Ignore Parking Restrictions , Police Warn Drivers

Drivers are being warned they can expect a fine if they continue to ignore parking restrictions outside a convenience store. The action comes after repeated issues with vehicles being left outside the McColl’s shop on the Front Street in West Auckland, where there are double yellow lines and speed bumps already in place. PCSO Lee Blaney said: “We have had a series of complaints about anti-social parking in this location from residents and business owners, even though there are existing measures in place to deter people from doing so. “We have already taken steps to address the issue; Durham Chief Constable Mike Barton has been on a site visit to discuss problem solving techniques with the team; we’ve placed temporary signs on lampposts and in shops to warn people we will be issuing fines to offenders; and, we have also been out and spoken to store owners, staff and residents to ask them to help us spread the message. Yet the problem persists. “Our message to people is very clear. If you park your vehicle in this location it is unsafe – that’s why there are restrictions in place. We will be running regular patrols of the area over the coming weeks and months and taking action against anyone that is flouting the rules. You have been warned.”
